Master's thesis is a result of inspiration for professional writing and (critical) evaluation of fashion design. Such evaluation is rare in Slovenia and if it exists it is adjusted on behalf of media’s current events.
The first part of the master's thesis deals with the way of dressing from psychological and sociological point of view. It raises questions about human personality and culture as well as concepts such as individuality, belonging to something, conveying a message, manner of expressing oneself and originality in dressing. It presents the theory of designing clothes.
The first part is followed by a brief psychological presentation of the Slovene nation, which explains our cultural consciousness and historical development that is in connection with our typical tendency not too exceed.
The central part concentrates on the development of fashion in Slovenia in the last decades. It combines information about Slovene textile industry and fashion design. It enables a better insight into past manners of organizing and function of mass textile industry in Slovenia as well as the comparison with its present critical situation, which is without any developed fashion systems.
The thesis deals with industrial fashion designers, who work on behalf of textile industry and its name, and independent liberal fashion designers. It also focuses on the most prominent Slovene fashion designers in the last decade and pays special attention to work and occasional presentations of the young generation of fashion designers.
The next part is about media, which influence fashion and the evaluation of fashion design at the most. The problems are focused on Slovene fashion magazines and fashion press, dailies, television and Internet.
The concluding part of the thesis is about my personal problematic with fashion design. It depicts my experimental creations, the research of human personality, individuality, the concept of originality and the creation of ordinary clothes.
I devote my research work to the development of fashion design from an experiment to the point of contact between a young aesthetically polished fashion designer and a future consumer who would be able to accept the designer’s creation as a special and unique work intended for recognizing the consumers personal needs, manifesting their own style and culture in which they appear.
